Water spraying from a silver showerhead.

Use a bucket to wash your car instead of a hose and wash it on your lawn. This will mean you don’t waste water by leaving the hose running lying on the ground and any water running off the car will be absorbed by your grass. Use a bowl of water to wash vegetables rather than leaving the tap running. Otherwise much of the water just runs straight down the drain without even being used. Wash clothes only when you have a full load. This will cut down on the number of loads of washing you do and therefore the amount of water you use. Use an efficient shower head and shorten shower times. Some shower heads can pump out incredible volumes of water which is simply unnecessary. A more efficient shower head can save an unbelievable amount of water. Water gardens in the evening or early in the morning. If you use a sprinkler during the day up to 80% of the water will evaporate and won’t even be absorbed by plants. Watering in cooler times will reduce evaporation and increase absorption. Don’t use the toilet as an ashtray or waste basket. Every time you flush the toilet it uses up to 9 litres so rather than flushing tissues etc down the toilet, throw them in the rubbish bin. Take shorter showers. Long hot showers waste water and energy. Minimise the showering time to what is necessary. Turn off the water after you wet your tooth brush. After the toothbrush is wet and you have filled a glass for rinsing your mouth there is no need to keep water running down the drain. If you wash dishes by hand don’t leave water running for rinsing. This can use and excessive amount of water. Keep a bottle of drinking water in the refrigerator. This avoids needing to run the tap to get cooler drinking water especially in the summer. Set your washing machine to the size of the load. This avoids excess water wastage. Use mulch in the garden around trees and plants. This slows the evaporation of moisture and avoids unnecessary watering while keeping the plants healthy. Use a broom or blower / vac to clean driveways and outdoor areas. Hundreds of Litres of water are wasted pushing a few leaves around. Water the lawn only when it needs it. A good way is to step on the grass. If it springs back up again it doesn’t need watering. Deep soak the lawn. When water your lawn make sure you soak the lawn long enough for the water to seep down to the roots. A light sprinkling only sits on the top and evaporates quickly. And make sure that the water actually goes onto the lawn! Watering the roof or your driveway is no good to anyone.

This morning marked a fantastic milestone as we celebrated the official opening of the Lake Taupo Hospice ‘Let’s Build’ project. The site has now been blessed, and work is officially ready to get underway. It was fantastic to see so many local businesses come together in support of such a meaningful initiative—KAPAI Taupō! We’re proud to be contributing our expertise to this project by installing the plumbing and gas supply, including hot water, for the new two-bedroom transportable dwelling. Once complete, the home will be auctioned, with all profits going directly to Lake Taupo Hospice—a cause that touches many lives in our community. A heartfelt thank you goes out to our incredible business partners who are standing alongside us on this journey: Rinnai New Zealand, Plumbing World NZ, and Buteline Plumbing Systems NZ. Your support makes all the difference. This project is more than just a build—it’s a chance to give back, to support Hospice, and to create something that will leave a lasting impact. We’re excited to see it come to life and to play our part in making it happen.

Did you know your LPG pigtails (the flexible hoses connecting your gas bottles) and your regulator both have a life expectancy of around five years? Over time, these components can crack, perish, or wear out—often with no visible signs. When they fail, it’s not just inconvenient; it can cost you money and compromise safety. And of course, it usually happens at the worst possible time. Leaks from aging pigtails or faulty regulators can lead to: Loss of gas supply Wasted LPG (higher bills) Potential safety risks If your pigtails or regulator are more than five years old—or you’re unsure when they were last replaced—now is the time to have them checked. Our qualified team can inspect, service, and replace these components to keep your gas supply safe and reliable. Get in touch with our office today to book an inspection and give yourself peace of mind.

We’re so proud to celebrate one of our own – Blake, who was awarded a Plumbing World Scholarship at the 2025 New Zealand Plumbing Awards, held in Brisbane this April. Blake travelled with us across the Tasman to experience the NZ Plumbing Conference, where he had the opportunity to network with industry leaders, explore new technologies, and gain insights into the challenges and opportunities facing our industry. It was a great week of learning, sharing, and connecting with others who are passionate about the future of plumbing, gasfitting, and drainlaying in New Zealand. The highlight of the trip came on Friday evening when Blake’s hard work was formally recognised with the award of his scholarship. Blake’s versatility is what we value the most at McBeth Plumbing & Gas - he confidently tackles a wide range of tasks. His adaptability and reliability mean that senior staff can trust him to step up when needed – helping to ease workload pressures and keep projects on track. But it’s not just about technical skills. Blake’s commitment to outstanding customer service consistently shines through. Clients regularly praise his professionalism, thoroughness, and approachable, friendly nature. We’re thrilled to see Blake recognised on a national stage. Congratulations, Blake – we’re excited to see all you’ll achieve in the years to come!

There’s been a lot to celebrate at McBeth Plumbing & Gas lately, and we thought it was the perfect time to share some of the amazing achievements from our team. First up, a big congratulations to MJ! Last week, he passed his Certifying Plumber exam, adding to his Certifying Gasfitter qualification from last year. What an incredible double achievement and a reflection of his hard work, Next, we’re proud to recognise Will, who has officially completed his five-year apprenticeship and is now a qualified tradesman Plumber, Gasfitter & Drainlayer. On 27 February 2025, the McBeth Plumbing & Gas team came together for our annual Team Alignment Day – a chance to step out of the day-to-day and focus on growth, connection, and the year ahead. Check out this view from Dixie Browns! The day was centred around key themes that drive our business forward: service excellence, an ownership mindset, trust and teamwork, a strong feedback culture, and building the right mindset for success. Through open discussions, activities, and shared learning, our team strengthened not only individual skills but also our collective approach to working together. Events like this are an important part of our culture. They give us the space to align on goals, sharpen our focus, and ensure we’re all working towards the same vision. Most importantly, they remind us that success comes from trust, collaboration, and the willingness to grow together. We left the day feeling energised and ready to tackle 2025 with passion and a united purpose – continuing to go above and beyond every time for our customers and our community.

On Thursday, November 28th, we had the absolute pleasure of celebrating 40 years in business alongside the grand opening of our new showroom at 32 Nukuhau Street. It was a fantastic day filled with product demonstrations, giveaways, and plenty of great conversations. The best part? Seeing so many of our loyal customers, industry partners, and members of the public come through the doors to celebrate with us. One of the highlights of the evening was drawing our massive $4,500 renovation package giveaway. Congratulations to Barbara and Murray Stanley, who took home the grand prize! We’re thrilled for them and can’t wait to see their renovation dreams come to life. This milestone means a lot to us as a family-owned, multigenerational business. Over the past four decades, we’ve grown alongside Taupō, building our reputation on trust, quality, and community values. The opening of our new showroom marks the next chapter – a space where locals can explore bathroom displays, heating solutions, and some of the latest innovations in plumbing and gas. We couldn’t have reached this milestone without the incredible support of our community and business partners. Thank you to everyone who joined us on the day, and to those who have trusted us over the years with their plumbing, gas, heating, and renovation needs. Here’s to the next 40 years of going above and beyond every time!
